Q: How much Anima do I drop when I die?
A: You drop an amount equal to your Character level, plus any Anima you are carrying. Anima that was spent into XP does not count towards ‘carried’ Anima anymore.
Q: What happens to dropped Anima?
A: On Initiative 20 the amount remaining is cut in half, rounded down, until 0 is left. If the creature went down before Initiative 20 in the round, then it will have its first cut in the following round.
Q: Is there a benefit for not joining a faction?
A: Typically no, but if you want to have something equivalent to chart your own path, then talk to the DM to see what we may come up with.
Q: Can I switch to a different faction if I’ve joined one? A: Typically no, as this would be very difficult. For some Factions, you join their Soulpact, which is a connection of all member’s souls which opens access to their abilities. Breaking it would have consequences.
Q: Can I get Renown in multiple factions? A: Yes, but you may only be inducted in one faction, thus only receiving abilities from that one faction. If you are not inducted into the faction, then the maximum renown you can get is 7. It makes sense that an adventurer may catch the eye of multiple groups, and this also is for players to be able to take time deciding which faction to join without getting too behind those who decide right away.
Q: Regarding racial abilities, can we use Tasha’s substitution for tools, languages, and proficiencies?
A: Yes, you can. Only the Ability Score bonuses are fixed, according to the Racial Abilities table.
Q: May I be part of a faction before the game starts?
A: Yes, if you choose the Faction Agent Background. This is one of the benefits for that Background. Additionally, you will start with 2 renown in your faction of choice for choosing Faction Agent. You may use affiliation with a faction before the campaign starts, but any ceremony of official induction to the faction is not done, and you will start with 0 renown.
